PROGRAMS
We aim to engage youth through in-school education programs, and ongoing projects both in their schools and their communities.

We have available to us, the skills, resources and ideas to combat global warming, yet for decades we have failed to act. The risk isn’t that we will stop talking about global warming; instead, it is that we will talk so much that we fail to act. As global citizens, we need to be able to hold our governments accountable, influence businesses through our consumer choices, and change the way in which we live our lives. The only way we can do that is by giving people the tools and information they need. The Gaia Project is dedicated to educating Canadians on the problem of global warming and the options available to individuals, businesses and governments in moving towards a low carbon economy and a climate neutral planet.

“Governments have no interest in challenging our illusions. If their aspirations and our aspirations diverge too widely, they will lose elections. They won’t take real action until we show them we have changed.”

While we have big ambitions, we recognize that we need to start with small focused programs. Initially, we aim to engage youth through in-school education programs, and ongoing projects both in their schools and their communities. We understand that while in-school seminars serve as a starting point, they will not provide the change in attitudes and CO2 emissions that we aim to achieve. To do this we need to engage the students on a more frequent basis. In light of this, The Gaia Project intends to make available funds and resources for youth to participate in the deployment of larger scale projects both during the school year and in the summer holidays. These will be targeted at providing carbon reducing technologies or programs within their local communities, and will focus on interactive learning opportunities.

George Monbiot, a leading journalist in the global warming debate, has said “Governments have no interest in challenging our illusions. If their aspirations and our aspirations diverge too widely, they will lose elections. They won’t take real action until we show them we have changed.”

The Gaia Project is a catalyst for change.
